Welcome

Formed in 1964, covering Selby and the surrounding villages, Selby District Lions Club is one of 45,000 clubs worldwide with a membership totalling 1.4 million under the umbrella of Lions Club International.

Lions Clubs International is a service organisation which fundraises for charitable purposes and co-operates with other local charities and non-profit making organisations. For more information, click here.

Lions Clubs International is recognised worldwide for its service to the blind and visually impaired.

This service began through a challenge issued in 1925 by Miss Helen Keller, the great advocate for the blind, for Lions to become "Knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness". In 1930, Lions introduced the White Cane, still universally used by the visually impaired.

Lions operate the Sightfirst Programme, the world's largest blindness prevention programme with the aim of establishing long-term solutions for eliminating preventable and reversible blindness. Over £150 million has been raised and to date 818 grants totalling over £98 million have been approved for blindness prevention in 90 countries. For more information, click here.

Our aim is to serve our local community and to provide help for those in need and also to raise funds for the benefit of local people.

We invite you to come and join us. You are welcome to attend one of our meetings or make enquiries about our club from any of our club members. Our telephone number is 0845 8335769.

We meet at 8pm every 4th Wednesday of the month at The Albion Vaults, New Street, Selby (map below).
